Saturday’s class is full, too full! Now, what does this mean? It’s a great problem to have, but still a problem. I don’t know what my long term solution will be, but tomorrow I added a later class, called the olympic lifting class. I also accommodated 12 people for the 9 am, so if you are registered, please show up, as the workout will be tailored specifically for you.
Not only was wednesday july 1st, a celebration of Canada’s Birthday, it was also the day Mr. Edwin Lucas, AKA, Fast Eddie showed that age is just a number. The challenge was set just a few days in advance, and in true CrossFit Style, no preparation was given. The results would be decided not only who could row 5000m the fastest, but who was prepared for anything, anytime, anywhere. The contestants were the aforementioned Fast Eddie, his son J.T., and the master mind behind the challenge, Jordan Glasser, the owner and trainer CrossFit Whistler.
When asked about the event, Jordan had this to say. “I had to level the playing field, given JT’s age and power, it would have been no contest to if it were a short distance. The event needed to be measured without a coach present, after all JT is in Australia. And picking a 5000m row a distance that none of us would choose seemed like the logical choice.”
The ball is now in JT’s court, and the public is waiting anxiously for his results. His performance this week in the 2000m row would have qualified for the top spot in CrossFit Whistler’s gym, but will he come through in the longer more grueling event.
Fast Eddie currently holds the top spot, beating his younger coach in a head to head battle. In the meantime we await anxiously for the underdog’s results……
Well, its official… I have access to the blog! And after all my hinting about wanting access, and sitting behind Jesse and putting in my two cents…I couldn’t decide what my first entry would be about. So instead of sharing something utterly profound with you today, I thought I’d give a little shout out to my morning classes who tested their static physical (but mostly mental) strength today. After completing time trials of running (6:30am) and rowing (8:30am), they completed “Lundini” aka AFRAP (as few rounds as possible) in 20 minutes of: Dead hang on the pullup bar, wallsits, and plank. You guys were tough! The facial expressions said it all. Nice work Susan who spent her final 4.5 minutes shaking in the plank position to finish in 2 rounds! And nobody had to do the penalty burpees for stalling between stations.
Interesting side note: Lundini is also a drink (spiced rum and 7up), both named after the same guy.
Have a great weekend and I’ll see some of you on Sunday for lifting/open gym.
Heather
p.s If I didn’t select a photo of you below you can assume that you looked too comfortable and well put together.
A new look site, what’s going on? First of all, a huge thanks to Chantal, who took care of my previous site. If anyone needs a site designed, you should check her out, ink design.
To know fault of her own, it was time for me to leave the nest. And of course I couldn’t think about of heading down the next road without Molly, who single handedly took on re-creating my site using Wordpress. The reason for the switch over is to be able to add content, photos, and make any changes necessary, instantly.
I know that there’s no way it will go on without a glitch or 2, so if you see anything that doesn’t look right, let me know, and I’ll get my team on it.
Things to check out are the photos. I should have a much easier time keeping them current.
I was checking out my daily sites and blogs, when I saw this on CrossFit Vancouver’s site (crossfit.ca). It’s something I couldn’t help but steal! It’s right up my alley.
I can’t wait for this movie to hit the theaters. Wow, I’m a dork!

2 of our own are giving it all this weekend!
Kerri is doing her ride for cancer from Vancouver to Seattle. I prayed for good weather, but it’s not looking that great.
She’s not alone, Shannon is riding the Test of Metal today. I’m sure that the course will be nice and slick after the last few days without sunshine.
Best of luck ladies! Make us proud!
Perhaps you’ve noticed some new faces in the gym, well there is more then just a few!

It’s an exiting time when a new crew starts! What does this mean for the group as a whole? The obvious one here is that it’s exiting to see new faces in the gym. Everyone has been more then forthcoming in giving a helping hand. But what constitutes help and encouragement, and what is coaching? More to come on that subject…….
And last but not least, Jesse is off to save the world! Well, maybe not the world, but he is returning to Salmon Arm for his summer occupation in forest fire fighting, working for Rapattack. In his absence, Heather will be helping by teaching classes. Sunday Heather will taking over widow makers. As for the widow maker Wednesday, I will no longer be doing that regularly. It’s not to say that I won’t be doing it again, but I will be taking a break from it. As is the Sunday class, although, expect an update on that class to clarify what to expect beyond this weekend.
I am so proud to announce that Aaron & Alison were hired on as full time Firefighters! Sadly, it’s not in our beautiful town
In looking through the archives, I do not have 1 single photo of Aaron, but Alison on the other hand, plenty to chose from. Above is a photo of Brosie (Alison’s dog Ambrose) and of course Alison at this week’s widow makers. You will both be missed, but, I also know you won’t be far. And, knowing how much you love CrossFit, and are keeping a place up here, we’ll keep on seeing you!
Aaron has been flying under the radar since his hiring. Aaron, if you’re still watching us…..we miss you, and want you back in with the morning crew. And want your picture!
You do me proud, real proud! Congratulations to Eric, Shelley, and Mel, who all cracked the top 5 in a 500m row.
The photo above is the biggest group of 10 I’ve ever seen! Nice work on Widow Maker’s, it’s not getting any easier, believe me I know! Thanks G and Kerri for the encouragement this morning, it really helped me push those reps as it got hard, all 20 of them ;-).
So many little stories to tell, and so many updates, more to come tomorrow, stay tuned.
Side note, concept 2 will tell you where your rowing ranks. http://www.concept2.com/sranking03/rankings.asp
As you know, Mom was in town. And no, she does not do CrossFit. But, she was absolutely amazed that you do it! And, like every good Mom she taught me a thing or 2. So for all of you that have been on my back about the filing cabinets, Mom was kind enough to replace them. So, my gift, was also yours, enjoy. But remember, if this one gets damaged, Mom is going to be upset.
And…….don’t forget that tomorrow’s widow makers!
Other notables:
I may have mentioned that there will be a new website coming. While I am sure that there it will be a smooth transition, but, if by some chance you are having trouble sometime soon, chances are changes being made. Before you lose your marbles, you can always sign in for classes via http://clients.mindbodyonline.com/, and search for crossfit whistler.
Any glitches should be temporary, my team is on it! (Thanks Molly!)
And lastly, but by no means on the lowest of priorities, I want to give a huge shout out. We’ve had a ton of people get started with fundamentals, and some just finishing. Ask anyone crossfitter, we know it can be hard, we know it’s intimidating, but we also know how great it feels to come back. So, keep on it, get through the fundamentals, all the regulars are routing for you, and want some new friends to suffer with
