Over the summer, and over the past year we’ve seen quite a few visitors from other affiliates. CrossFit is kind of a big deal, but as you’ll see in this email, it’s the people, not the program that make it so special.
Drew and his wife Lezlie stopped in for a few of the WOD’s during their visit. Here’s what he had to say:
Jordan,
I wanted to just send you and your members a thank you for allowing Lezlie and I to come to workout and giving us some comments on what to do while we were visiting Whistler. Everyone was very friendly and made us feel welcome. It is nice to be able to go to an entirely different country but be around people that encourage you and treat you as if you lived there and worked out with them on a weekly basis. We have only been doing Crossfit for six months but we are continuously awed and impressed by the program and its followers. I have attached a picture of Lezlie with your shirt on looking out over a lake on the High Note trail we hiked one day while we were there. Again, if you are ever down in the Houston area look us up and come by for a workout.
Thanks again,
Drew Reeves
Here’s the photo:
And that is why I where my CrossFIt shirts with pride. I’m proud to call myself a CrossFitter, proud to train with this crew.
Drew and Lezlie, and to every other crossfitter who was graced us with your presence, thanks for stopping by. We loved having you!
Have you heard about this? Wild Play Whistler, the website is here. I’d love to see who’d be interested in checking this out, I here it’s pretty flippin’ sweet! The difficulty is…….finding a day and time where we all can go. I’m thinking about setting up a group rate on the weekend of August 8-9. Leave a comment if you are interested.
And, I’ve mentioned to a few of you that I will be heading down to Seattle in a couple of weeks, and have offered picking up some weightlifting shoes. If you are interested, please let me know. There’s a catch, it’s specific site, and the only shoe they offer is adidas. That’s not a bad thing. I love the shoes, however, depending on what size shoe you have, it can be more expensive. Again, comment if you are interested. Here’s the site.
You are not the only one. It can be intimidating coming into the gym for the first time. It can be intimidating for the first month. Again, you are not the only one.
Why do I say this, and why am I writing this on the front page of my website? I sure don’t want to scare anyone off, so what gives?
Taking that first step is the hardest thing, but you should understand, that the things you see people achieving inside these four walls were once you. Intimidated. But, for whatever reason, they took on that fear, and walked in the door to give CrossFit a try.
There is also the notion that you have to be a certain fitness level to do this. That is the furthest from the truth! Even if you were so sore that you couldn’t move after your first workout. You were not alone. You won’t feel that way after every workout, and you probably would be able to do that same workout again without same level of soreness.
I make a promise to anyone starting out. No one here will make you feel inferior for either finishing last, or not being able to do a certain exercise. If someone does, that person will be asked to leave. That is not what we are about. I take pride in the strong character of people that train here. We all have taken the time to learn these movements. We all have struggled with it at one time or another. So don’t be afraid.
I am hoping that some of the crew can comment on what is like for them when they started. It’s always inspiring to hear. Whether it was the fear of doing a box jump, the fear of lifting weights, or just the fear of walking in the door.
I would love to see the comments section fill up with anything you can share on this topic.

2 of our own are giving it all this weekend!
Kerri is doing her ride for cancer from Vancouver to Seattle. I prayed for good weather, but it’s not looking that great.
She’s not alone, Shannon is riding the Test of Metal today. I’m sure that the course will be nice and slick after the last few days without sunshine.
Best of luck ladies! Make us proud!
Perhaps you’ve noticed some new faces in the gym, well there is more then just a few!

It’s an exiting time when a new crew starts! What does this mean for the group as a whole? The obvious one here is that it’s exiting to see new faces in the gym. Everyone has been more then forthcoming in giving a helping hand. But what constitutes help and encouragement, and what is coaching? More to come on that subject…….
And last but not least, Jesse is off to save the world! Well, maybe not the world, but he is returning to Salmon Arm for his summer occupation in forest fire fighting, working for Rapattack. In his absence, Heather will be helping by teaching classes. Sunday Heather will taking over widow makers. As for the widow maker Wednesday, I will no longer be doing that regularly. It’s not to say that I won’t be doing it again, but I will be taking a break from it. As is the Sunday class, although, expect an update on that class to clarify what to expect beyond this weekend.
Just got it in the mail today. We’d like to extend an invitation to all for a Friday night showing of the movie. To avoid having to box up the TV and PS3 we’ll try to squeeze everyone into our place. Depending on numbers of people, the location may change. We’ll play it by ear. Lets call 9PM showtime, and your more than encouraged to bring something to drink. For more information, directions, or if you know your keen drop me an email, text, or phone call. Giddi up.
Post: I will do everything within my power not to watch it before Friday night.
Side note: My power is limited in these kinds of cases.
